Prague Viburnum

4-Season Interest, Flowers in Spring, Evergreen

Prague Viburnum, Viburnum x pragense, is one of our favorite easy-care evergreens here at Reems Creek Nursery. The leaves are beautifully textured, the leaf color is a rich deep green, and the large white flowers cover the plant in springtime. Perfect combo, right?

In the hedgerow* at Reems Creek Nursery, we have a few well-established Prague Viburnums where they have proven to be very self sufficient and low maintenance. Every spring they are a joy to behold when the pink buds/white flowers burst forth, and they continue offering interesting texture throughout the rest of the year.

One of the few broadleaf evergreens available in our planting zone, Prague has a moderate growth habit to 10’ tall x 6’ wide at maturity. At this size it offers the perfect solution for privacy hedging that won’t block your views or loom over your neighbor. This versatile plant works well in a hedge, as a foundation plant, in a mixed shrub border, or all by itself.

For best results, plant in moist, well-drained soil in full sun, but it can take a touch of shade if need be. As with all new plants, keep well watered the entire first year with a deep watering prior to putting your hose away for the winter. Fertilize with Plant-tone in late winter/early spring, and if needed, prune after flowering. Somewhat deer-resistant. Hardy in Planting Zones 5-8 (but may not be evergreen in Zone 5).
