Reems Creek Nursery is proud to sponsor Bee City-Asheville’s 2024 Pollination Celebration!
June is Pollinator Month, and Bee City-Asheville celebrates pollinators with an entire month packed full of pollinator-related events.
A little background: Did you know that Bee City USA was born in Asheville and that Asheville was the very first Bee City USA? Phyllis Stiles founded Bee City USA in 2012 with the objective of reversing pollinator decline and inviting communities to be proactive in sustaining pollinators. With a lot of passion and determination – city by city and campus by campus – she grew the network of affiliates into a movement that now includes 213 cities and 189 campuses across 47 states including DC and Puerto Rico.
In 2018 Bee City USA and Bee Campus USA became initiatives of the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation continuing the mission to “increase the abundance of native plants, provide nest sites, and reduce the use of pesticides”.
Phyllis, along with the very dedicated Bee City-Asheville Steering Committee, remains incredibly devoted to pollinator protection. Across Western North Carolina many Bee City-Asheville projects are in place or under development including Pollination Celebration, programs for school children, Certified Pollinator Advocate classes, the Asheville Butterfly Trail, and the Annual Buzz Gathering.
