About Susan Reavis: As one of the owners of Reems Creek Nursery and the daughter of the founders, Susan’s interest in growing plants started at an early age. Susan sows thousands of seeds every year at our propagation farm, and these seeds grow into beautiful vegetables, herbs, perennials, and annuals that are sold at our Garden Center.

According to Susan “My interest in starting plants from seed began when my husband, Joe, and I had our first garden in Eastern NC. We grew beans, corn, radishes, and other vegetables from seed in Zone 8, where the weather warms early in spring.

I enjoy sowing seeds and then watching them emerge from the soil, get their first true leaves, and then grow a strong enough root system to transplant into larger containers. Eventually those go out into the great outdoors to produce food or flowers!”

About Ruth Gonzalez: Ruth has actively gardened and planted many seeds since her college years – ranging from organic market farming to tiny-space gardens to gardening for pollinators. Organic gardening, pollinator habitat, and the wonderment of nature are her passions. A sometimes artist, occasional garden designer, and a NC Certified Plant Professional, Ruth has worked at Reems Creek Nursery since 2003 and is inspired by an ever-widening array of plant palettes and landscape design approaches.
