• Now is a fantastic time to plant Perennials, Trees, Shrubs, and Bulbs. This is also a great time to divide existing Perennials. Garden forks make dividing easy.

• Be sure to plan carefully when planting trees and shrubs, taking into account their mature sizing (look for those sizes on our plant tags). Avoid planting large trees under power lines or in septic drain fields.

• Mulch! Especially mulch newly planted plants to protect them during the cold of winter. Mulch will also slowly break down and improve the soil.

• Houseplants are a rewarding way to transform homes and businesses into relaxing, cozy, leafy oases. Now is a great time to inspect them for any health issues. We carry multiple organic products in our Garden Shop to help prevent and treat problems.

• Plants may still need watering, especially newly planted palnts, particuarly with our unusually warm and dry weather. Water when the soil temperature is 40°F or above. Fully dormant deciduous trees require less water than “awake” plants like evergreens, but all will benefit from water during dry periods.

• Be sure to clean up any diseased foliage by bagging it up and removing it from your property. Avoid composting diseased plant material. Material from healthy plants is ideal for all manner of composting systems.

• You can also choose to leave the leaves, to help pollinators.
